Bilingual poems

The following are some of my favorite Elwin Wirkala’s poems, and my Spanish poetic translations:

October
By Elwin Wirkala

Now that it is my turn to be old,
and the old priorities are past,
and the beasts all settling in the fold,
chickens coming home to roost at last,
and the ledger falling into place
beside the greater good come to the fore,
despite the individual fate we face
and the overwhelming sense, before,
of life revolving ’round old number one…
but now the sense of we, the human race,
formed of stardust ’round the circling sun,
unique among the planets and the stars
we feel ourselves, and by stars foretold,
now that it is our turn to be old.

Traduccion: Rita Wirkala
Octubre

el bien mayor pasa a primer plano;
