I would like to refer my readers to an important article regarding the learning process: “What’s Lost as Handwriting Fades” by Maria Konnnikova. It’s from the Science Times section of the New York Times, June 3rd, 2014:

Through her readings in psychology as well as neurological studies, Konnikova learned that memory and motor skills may suffer as a consequence of a shift from handwriting to the keyboard. The links between handwriting and learning run deep. Children learn faster and with greater ease, generate more ideas and retain more information, research reveals, due to the activation of a specialized neural circuit activated during hand writing but absent when the words are typed out on a computer.

En un artículo publicado en el New York Times de la semana pasada, “What’s Lost as Handwriting Fades” de Maria Konnnikova, la escritora habla de lo que se pierde al abandonar la escritura a mano. A través de su investigación de estudios realizados en psicología y neurología, ella sugiere que la memoria y el aprendizaje están estrechamente ligados a la manera de escribir. Los niños aprenden mejor, más rápido, y retienen y generan más nuevas ideas cuando escriben a mano que cuando lo hacen en el teclado. Esto se debe, según estudios neurológicos, a que la escritura manual activa un circuito mental que no se genera escribiendo en una computadora. I read that article in the NY Times and sent a copy to a friend who’s a handwriting analyst. It’s excellent.
This article gives a scientific angle to what many old school “senior citizens” suspected for a long time. The practical problem is to keep balance, teach cursive to reluctant elementary school kids and keep the practice among seniors and grandparents.
True. I myself have lost the practice, but intend to recover it!

Qué bueno, mantengo bastante escritura manual, que me gusta mucho, es más, no me siento a la compu sin hoja y birome al lado, muchas veces copio párrafos de temas que me interesan, estoy segura q en alguna de mis vidas anteriores fui copista! Abrazo Rita!
